In a farmer’s market in St. Louis, I ran into an actual farmer. Jason runs a produce co-op, and Ivan, with whom he shared a market booth, runs a solar-powered greenhouse where he grows winter figs and tomatoes.
As I found in several conversations this particular afternoon, St. Louis is part of a growing number of communities trying to be intentionally local and sustainable in their commercial choices.
